Problem with Firefox 3.5 and Twitter Updates

by JWMcGregor on August 17, 2009

I have spent yesterday afternoon  and evening plus a fair bit of my morning trying to figure out why I could not tweet with Firefox on my new PC.  The actual problem is that from the web page you can’t tweet or DM and you can’t follow people.

The machine has an AMD Phenom II processor and is running ubuntu 9.04 64 bit O/S Jaunty Jackalope.

As I had some major issues installing Adobe Air and tweetdeck because of the 64 bit architecture and a couple of problems with screen handling with the video card. I assumed it was an O/S problem

Then twitter and it’s API layer crashed because of an attack.  I thought that it must have been because twitter was running slow.  Then later I noticed that the API layer was back up and it still did not work.

I went into full debug mode and spent hours uninstalling stuff and testing.

Finally after an afternoon, night and a morning I started to google the problem and almost immediately came across the fiollowing on the twitter status website dated August 7:

Problems with updating from Firefox 3.5

Some users are unable to update on the web using Firefox 3.5. Other actions like following and sending DMs are also affected.

We’re working on solving this problem.

A couple of days after this was posted. I noticed that functionality had returned. It looks as if the Twitter guys sorted the problem.
