tweetfollow.com tacky tacky tacky!

I logged onto my twitter account today and noticed a tweet that had supposedly come from me , the only trouble was I was out at the time the tweet was created.

twitimage

I clicked the link  and was taken to twitterfollow.com.  I logged into the website had a look around and saw it was one of those sites that get you 300 followers a day or something like that. Not my cup of tea.  I logged out and deleted the tweet.

I logged back into twitter tonight and noticed the same post again. Thinking someone had jacked my account I thought I would follow the link from the tweet again and contact the owner of the site.

When  I clicked on the contact link I came to a page basically telling me that if I was contacting to complain , forget it. Close my account or change my twitter password and next time read the fine print!

The exact message is:

  • IF YOU WANT TO STOP US FROM PROMOTING ON YOUR ACCOUNT PLEASE LOGIN THE SITE AND AT THE BOTTOM HIT CLOSE ACCOUNT. PLEASE DONT EMAIL US ABOUT THIS ISSUE. ONCE YOU LOGIN AT THE BOTTOM YOU WILL SEE CLOSE ACCOUNT AND YOU WONT GET THE MESSAGES AGAIN. IF THAT DONT WORK JUST CHANGE PASSWORD AND NEXT TIME READ THE RULES ON THE SITE BEFORE YOU SIGN IN AGAIN.
  • CONTACT US AT CONTACT@TWEETERFOLLOW.COM

Now that I have captured this screen shot, I’ll do what they suggest and close the account.

This is   definately a scam and I am  a bit worried now that I have been Hijacked.

Followup:

I was hijacked and have had nothing but trouble since. Lots of password issues.

How do you protect yourself from this sort of thing?
